Merry Commercialized Christmas!

I've been thinking about the whole idea behind gift giving on Christmas for the past several days and am now fed up with the idea. Here's why:

What is Christmas all about? Originally it was the birth of Christ... but now, with the existence of Santa and his "naughty or nice" list, kids get presents on Christmas. Right.

But we're adults now...

Okay, someone wants something for Christmas, right? I figure, if they want it, they should just go out and get it themselves!

If you want to give a gift, give to those who can't afford to live the lives we have. Give to those less fortunate!

That said, I'm quite tempted to tell my family next year not to get me anything and if they REALLY want to get something for me, help out at a homeless shelter or a food bank.

I know this blog isn't very well constructed and for that, I do apologize. However, I'm must ask: what do you guys think about this? Is it something you'd consider? I'm interested to hear your thoughts.

That said, Happy Holidays to all of you out there and a Happy New Year, too!

Take Care,
Nick

I'm totally feelin' that idea mostly because I usually don't have a lot of $$$ to go around. I have a teenage daughter, a partner, my partner's mother, and my parents to buy gifts for and it gets real expensive trying to buy for anyone more than that. So, yes, I'd definitely have to agree with your suggestion not to buy things for us, but to 'give' to those who are less fortunate. Afterall, Christmas is the season for giving, not for going broke for the ones we love, but to help those who can't help themselves, then God will bless us and them even more. I felt so good this year moreso than other years because my partner and I followed our hearts and gave to two different kids each from a local charity so that they would be blessed with gifts to open up for Christmas. It warmed my heart and nourished my soul to know that in addition to my family, I gave to someone anonymously so they would have a merry Christmas.

I was expecting for people to "beat me up" for leaving that post. Thankfully you agree!

While I haven't "come clean" and told my family what I'm thinking ab out doing, I still feel strongly about I stated. Though I know that becoming a Christian is not an earned process, that day I blogged, it just really hit me that we could be doing so much for others rather than, as you so perfectly said, "going broke for the ones we love". I'm very glad that Christmas '07 went so well for you!

How was your New Year's Eve?

Allow me to formally introduced myself.....my name is Pam and I'm a junior at UIS. Ok, now that I got that out of the way, lol.....my new year's eve was ok. I really wanted to go out clubbin' with my partner since we haven't been in years, but she insisted on staying home this year, so we just camped out in front of the t.v. and ate shrimp and stuff with my daughter. It was ok, but I still would've preferred to go out. Anywayys, how was your new year's eve. What are your new year's resolutions for 2008, if any? Mine...well let's see...the typical lose weight and get physically fit thing most people choose and also to become more assertive. Holla back or I'll just keep responding to your interesting blogs, lol.
